Visit to the south tower of the Forth Bridge 24th August 2014

To celebrate the 50th birthday of the Forth Road Bridge in 2014 the Forth Estuary Transport Authority (FETA) offered the chance for 2014 people to visit the top of the towers of the bridge. I think that we had the best day of the summer, clear skies and hardly any wind. The trip involved a four person lift that went nearly to the top of the tower followed by a climb up a 40 foot ladder. The lift is long and thin and four people standing one in front of the other fills it full. Fortunately we went up in pairs plus the driver. A line was attached to our harnesses when we climbed the ladder and it's inside the tower so it's not too daunting. The views are great but they won't be letting any more people visit for a while as Sunday was the last day of the trips. 2014 people will have made the trip by the end of the day.
